Looks: Raito has white hair and a tan complexion. Underneath a white jacket, with a black trim, he wears a tank top, laced together at the button holes, splitting at the middle, with an under layer, with a somewhat demonic pattern. He wears simple gray pants with sandals, grey socks. On the bottom part of his jacket is a cylidrical trinket, which was given to him by his grandmother, which he thinks will give him luck. He wears a Wato, a sword, on his back, with two strings, with a single feather and beads attached to each. Also, he has earrings on his left ear. Underneath his jacket, he has two weapons pouches on either side of his legs.

Personality: Raito is a generally happy person, a 'cup is half full' guy. He's not anti-social, but it takes a lot of coaxing for him to go out in public with others. Most of the time he's energetic and full of laughter, rarely sad or melancholy. However, through his euphoric demeanor, he hides a pain. Though he has his mother, who doesn't understand what it is to be a ninja, he lost his grandmother, a skilled kunoichi. The trinket that hangs from the bottom of his jacket is a remembrance of her, and he believes it gives him luck. To help, he continually writes. He writes poems, journals, anything to keep off his past sadness and anxieties. He hasn't come up with the courage to share it with anyone yet. His goal, is to make a single poem which capsulates his sadness, hopes, fears, dreams, and loves. He hopes that his journey as a ninja will help him with this.

History
History:
Raito was born into an interesting family. His grandparents, on his father's side, were ninjas, native to the Land of Lightning, but they left that village to join Konoha for unknown reasons. When Raito was born, they were both of jounin rank. His mother owned a small scroll shop, dedicated to literacy and calligraphy. His father, a blacksmith, worked at a local Blacksmith's. During his early life, Raito was relatively sheltered, especially when talk of demons started flowing through the Continent. It was also during that time that his grandfather died on a raid mission to Iwagakure. His grandmother knew that Raito needed to have self defense so she took it upon herself to start training him, behind Raito's parents' backs. She taught him Taijutsju forms of an average Gennin and the basics of chakra and Genjutsu. By the time he was 10, when he entered the academy, he was able to do Taijutsju effectively, create a decent henge, and a mediocre bushin. He was allowed to join late because of his aptitude. What Raito didn't know was that his grandmother was worried about him. She had mapped out his chakra paths and found "dams" in them, slowing down his flow of chakra. She deduced that he was born with an abnormal amount of chakra and his body compensated by erecting these "dams". She knew that these were like the chakra gates, but with different results...

His academy days weren't that long, but neither were they short. He paid little attention to class, except when it was interesting topics like the history of the hidden villages. He had to do his homework in secret, as his mother and father still didn't know that he was in the academy. It was an elaborate hoax on his part, but because of this, he made friends with no one, choosing to focus on his academics. He always had something different everyday as an excuse to leave for school, even on the weekends, not to arouse suspicion. He usually went to his grandmother's on the weekends. He had begged and implored her to instruct him in Kenjutsu. Reluctantly, she taught him Watojutsu, a style she picked up when she traveled east from the continent in her younger days. She even taught him two Genjutsu techniques. In addition, she taught him the basics to summon. When he asked her for a contract, she said no, but she did teach him the hand signs for a particular one, but he didn't know which one. He knew she was adamant about the contract, so he didn't push it. This was the routine until when he became 11, when his parents found out. There was a small raid on the village from bandits, and his house was one of the ones that were broken into. He decided to act like he had no idea what to do; he was a helpless civilian. When his father was cut down in front of him, he stopped his charade. In his anger, his chakra spiked and he killed the bandit in cold blood. Then, he took his mother to his grandmother's house for sanctuary, but she was dead. In her one of her hands was a sword, specifically a Wato, and in the other, the trinket on Raito's jacket, and a scroll. On her face was peaceful bliss. That night, he vowed to protect his mother, no matter what the cost. He took the sword and donned it on his back, and the trinket, which he put on his jacket. He took the scroll in his hand, and walked away, his mother in tow. It was then he started writing. During the last year of his academy days, his skill had flourished. He perfected the three academy Jutsus to an extent that smoke doesn't appear when he uses bushin or henge. He also had learned another Genjutsu. He found out that the scroll his grandmother had was a scroll that needed blood, and he deduced that it was a Summoning Scroll, but he has yet to use it, though he perfected the necessary hand signs. His mother seeped into depression, turning to alcohol for solstice. She still worked in her shop, but they rarely had any customers, so now it was up to Raito to bring in the income. He passed the academy test with flying colors and now he awaits his gennin team assignment.

RP Sample

Raito gazed up at the night sky atop his house, a scroll and pen beside his body, his Wato on his other side. He sighed and kept on looking at the star that was red. Why is that one different? Why is that one red? He thought. It kind of reminds me of Grandma... She too was different. He smiled at the thought and suddenly inspiration hit him. He unraveled the scroll and took the pen up to his mouth and he chewed on the back of it thoughtfully. Now, what was I going to do? His head dropped down and sighed. Ok, think! His mouth transformed into a smile, and his hand started to draw the letters. The first stanza of his poem was done.



He smiled and let the ink dry before he raveled up the scroll and headed back inside. He let out a breath. Tomorrow was a big day after all. Gennin assignments and what not. After getting dressed in his pajamas, he settled down for the night. Just before drifting off into sleep, he heard the drunken stupor of his mother walk into the house. And then, he heard her cry. He went to sleep, a single tear trailing down his cheek.

Wattojutsu

Description:
Watojutsu is the combination of the speed and slashing style of kenjutsu form with the strength and flexibility of a typical Chinese sword art. Raito is a half master of Watojutsu, as his grandmother only taught him half of what the swordstyle employs.
